Centering Anti-Black Racism as a Path to Community Impact

THE ASK

A nonprofit organization that supports families and youth through various development and community programs were in need of support in making meaningful progress toward their vision of operating as an anti-racist organization and combating anti-Blackness more specifically.

OUR PROCESS

The Cee Suite, in partnership with psychologist Dr. Jamila Codrington, conducted an organization-wide assessment that included staff and community surveys and focus groups, a review of their internal practices and policy documents, and interviews with senior leadership. We worked closely with the organization’s Anti-racism Steering Committee to guide project goals, gather feedback and gain critical insights in navigating the organization.

WHAT WE DELIVERED

  • Assessment summary report that included recommendations for internal education and learning strategies, talent and community analytics practices, leadership development, and ways to extend their anti-racism work to the families and children they support

  • Ongoing partnership to implement a strategy plan that focuses on internal messaging and education, department-specific actions to support anti-Black racism, organization-wide policy revisions and processes for accountability and transparency.

  • Organization-wide e-Learning and follow up processing sessions to develop psychological safety skills and behaviors

  • Executive leadership and manager training

  • Educational content about historical and modern complexities of race and its specific impact in the child welfare system
